Tour de Landry's MONDAY, OCTOBER 13, 2008 – Columbus Day

Landry's benefit ride for MassBike

This year, due to popular demand, the second annual Tour de Landry's will be limited to 100 invited riders from Landry's Cycling Club.

The Tour de Landry's is a challenging 90-mile ride geared for regular Landry's Cycling Club riders who can average at least 16–18 mph for several hours – and who are capable or riding safely and legally in traffic.  The event is planned with only one supported route of 90 miles, so we do not recommend this ride if it's your first long-distance cycling event.

GET INVITED:
To receive an invitation to the Tour de Landry's, e-mail Jennifer Leland in Landry's office:  jleland@landrys.com

Landry's Cycling Club advocates cycling as an environmentally friendly, healthy, and enjoyable activity that will make our world a better place.  We are living the dream of better bicycling for a better world.

The purpose of this year's Tour de Landry's is threefold:
  • To celebrate and thank the ride leaders and frequent riders involved with Landry's Cycling Club
  • To build our local cycling culture and to celebrate Landry's store locations and all the hometowns where we live, work, and bike
  • To promote and practice safe and legal cycling on Massachusetts roadways

Landry's Bicycles will cover all costs for producing this event, and 100% of registration fees will be donated to MassBike.

Private invitation for challenging ride

Registration for the 2008 Tour de Landry's will be open to Landry's Cycling Club staff, ride leaders, regular club riders, and invited friends.  To inquire about Tour de Landry's invitations and registration, contact the manager at your local Landry's store.

Details for 2008 Tour de Landry's

The Tour de Landry's is a 90-mile bike tour of all four Landry's locations – starting in Natick, then traveling to Boston, Norwood, Westboro, and back to Natick for a post-ride party.  This year's ride will take a more direct route into Boston, traveling more on roads than bike paths.

The Tour de Landry's will be held rain or shine.  In case of severe weather, the ride could be cancelled but we will still hold the celebration party behind Landry's store in Natick.

Tour de Landry's registration includes the following:
  • 90-mile, on-road bike route throughout scenic eastern and central Massachusetts.  The route will be cued and arrowed.
  • Pre-ride breakfast.
  • Mechanical support along the route.
  • Hydration and snacks at each Landry's location.
  • Post-ride BBQ party with good food, Harpoon beer and soda, and cookies for dessert.
  • All registration fees will support MassBike's advocacy mission to improve bicycling conditions in Massachusetts.

Registration fee:  $25 for all participants.  All registration fees will be donated to MassBike and are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.  The registration fee is non-refundable.  Registration will be by invitation to regular Landry's Cycling Club riders.

Cycling equipment:  Helmets are required for all riders.  Make sure that your road bike is in good working condition before the ride.

Landry's team jersey required:  All Tour de Landry's participants are expected to wear a Landry's team/club jersey on the ride.  Landry's club jerseys are available for sale anytime at Landry's store locations.

Safe and legal cycling required:  Same roads, same rules.  All Tour de Landry's participants are expected to follow the rules of the road.

Comments on last year's Tour de Landry's

Although it was a wet morning for last year's Tour de Landry's, participants had still had a great time:
  • "Great tour of Eastern Mass. Fun Group. Great Exercise!"
  • "I enjoyed the ride, the ride leaders, the participants, the mechanics, and the post-ride party festivities!"
  • "As far as the route goes, I totally got it.  A taste of cycling around the Boston area: urban, suburban, commuter, and recreational rider."

PHOTOS:  The first annual Tour de Landry's, held on Columbus Day, was a spectacular event that also raised $1,500 for MassBike.  The route circumnavigated Landry's four stores and was a magnificent tour of Eastern Massachusetts, with a fun party afterwards.  View Tour de Landry's photos from last year's ride.
