Pan Mass Challenge NEWS RELEASE:  January 20, 2010

Landry’s Bicycles signs on as the lead bike-shop sponsor of the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge

BOSTON -- The Pan-Massachusetts Challenge, the nation’s most successful athletic fundraising event, has signed Landry's Bicycles as its lead bike-shop sponsor.  Landry's Bicycles will support the efforts of more than 5,000 cyclists who will ride up to 190 miles in the 2010 PMC to raise millions of dollars for cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund.

“Many of our customers ride the PMC every year,” says Landry’s CEO Tom Henry.  “It’s an honor for Landry’s to become more involved with such a wonderful event and a great cause like the PMC, and we’re really looking forward to it.”

Landry’s Bicycles will sponsor the Pan-Mass Challenge through the company’s extensive Charity Ride Support program.  In addition to helping to promote the PMC to local cyclists, Landry’s stores will provide mechanical staff support and spare parts during the event on August 7–8 at both the starting location in Sturbridge and the overnight stop at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy in Bourne.  Landry's Bicycles operates a growing family of bicycle stores located in Boston, Natick, Norwood, and Westborough, Massachusetts.

“Landry’s has been a long-time supporter of the PMC,” says PMC Founder and Executive Director Billy Starr. “We are grateful for their stepped-up support and are happy to welcome them officially to the PMC team.”

The Pan-Mass Challenge will celebrate its 31st ride this summer when more than 5,000 cyclists come from 36 states and 8 countries to ride one of the PMC’s 10 routes and raise $31 million.  The cyclists will be supported by 3,000 volunteers across 46 cities and towns through which the PMC routes travel.  Since 1980, the PMC has raised and contributed $270 million to cancer research.

The Pan-Massachusetts Challenge
The PMC is a pioneer in the athletic fundraising event industry and today raises more money for charity than any other in the country.  On August 7 and 8, 2010, 5,200 cyclists will travel one of 10 routes, logging between 47 and 190 miles over one or two days, through 46 Massachusetts cities and towns.  Their collective goal is to raise more than $31 million for cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund and bring the organization’s 31-year fundraising total to more than $300 million.  For more information about the PMC, call 800-WE-CYCLE or visit www.pmc.org.
